Jim Ross was recently a guest on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast to discuss life after his wife passed, his status with New Japan, role in WWE, and more.
Ross stated that is working 40 dates a year for the WWE, and he is happy with the schedule they agreed upon. He also stated that he enjoys staying busy since his wife passed away shortly before WrestleMania 33.
Regarding his relationship with New Japan, Ross cleared the air on his status with the company.
“It’s quite simple. I never worked for New Japan. I don’t work for New Japan. I don’t get paid by New Japan. I do voiceovers of their matches that they record in Japan that AXS TV edits, and airs on their network. And [AXS] pay me for my services.”
He also shared that no one has ever mentioned to him that New Japan wants him to be the voice of their expansion to the United States. While he admitted that it wouldn’t had made any difference regarding his decision to work for them, he is enjoying the fact that he is fulfilling his obligations for AXS TV.
Ross also does not know, and has not discussed, whether WWE will allow him to continue working dates outside the company. Ross added that WWE has no issue, though, with him continuing his podcast.
