– It’s announced that John Cena will face Rusev in a Flag Match at WWE Battleground.
– Mike and Maria Kanellis are backstage being interviewed by Renee Young. Maria says that people don’t understand their love. Mike gushes about how beautiful and perfect his wife is. They go to kiss but a loud clatter interrupts them. Cameras pan over and Sami Zayn is standing there stretching. They freak out that he’s now cut them off two weeks in a row, and Sami apologies for that and says he really appreciates their message of positivity and love. He rambles on forever about…something…until his music hits and realizes he’s late for the main event. Mike wants to continue their kiss but Maria puts her hand up and says no, the moment has been ruined.
(4) AJ Styles won the Independence Day Battle Royal. Kevin Owens is out on commentary, and tells Byron to shut up at least half a dozen times before the match even starts. Somehow Dolph Ziggler was the first one eliminated, and it wasn’t even a big story-driven moment. During the commercial break we lost a bunch of people; pretty much the entire roster that wasn’t in action earlier in the night. Fandango got thrown over followed by his partner Tyler Breeze, who was wearing a blonde wig. Rowan continued his dominance by throwing over one of the Colons, but got stomped into the corner by Mojo Rawley. Harper fires away at everyone but then gets eliminated by Mojo. The Hype Bros work together to eliminate Rowan, then Mojo turns on his friend and throws him to the floor. Everyone else in the match helps Ryder get revenge by working together to eliminate Rawley. It’s down to three: AJ Styles, Sami Zayn and Tye Dillinger. The crowd breaks out into a “TEN!” chant as Owens points out that two of the men left are Canadian. Dillinger hits both guys with Tye Breakers. He tries to eliminate them both at the same time but gets throws over by Sami, and the crowd is not happy about it. The remaining two square off in the center of the ring, and it’s Zayn who takes control with an exploder suplex into the bottom turnbuckle. He lines up for the Helluva Kick but comes up empty and almost eliminates himself in the process. They fight for position on the apron and its Styles who hits the Pele Kick to win the match.
– Kevin Owens hits the ring immediately after the match and beats down AJ Styles. He holds up the United States Championship as referees try to separate the two. Owens holds the title in his face but Styles fires off with a huge kick. He looks for the Styles Clash but Owens escapes the ring and runs away. AJ ends the night posing with the U.S. title as the champion freaks out, screaming at him to give him his belt back.
