The upcoming Jumanji reboot scheduled to hit theaters this Christmas finally has an official name and a brand new trailer.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle stars WWE legend Dwayne Johnson alongside Central Intelligence co-star Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Dr. Who alumni Karen Gillan as four teenagers sucked into the savage world of Jumanji after discovering an old video game buried in the basement of their high school. From the looks of the world premier trailer, which you can check out below, the film will largely be an action comedy centered around the four using “super powers” granted by the video game and coming to terms with the strange bodies they have mysteriously inhabited, as they attempt to return to the real world.
This is quite a leap from the mythology of the 1995 cult classic that starred the late Robin Williams and a very young Kirsten Dunst. The comedic icon played a wildman named Alan Parish who found a board game called Jumanji buried in a construction zone as a young boy, and reemerged after spending 26 years trapped inside its world of carnivorous mutant plants, poorly animated monkeys and barbarian hunters. The original wasn’t exactly well-received by critics at the time, but is something of a beloved treasure for anyone who grew up watching Williams work in the ’90s.
So what do you think about this new “modernized” take on the world of Jumanji? Are you excited to see The Great One tackle the role? At the very least, we’ll get to see Jack Black playing the part of a preppy teenage girl, Kevin Hart being Kevin Hart, and 20 years of CGI development certainly won’t hurt… Sound off in the comments section below.
