WWE Battleground
As noted, John Cena has been added to the advertised lineup for the Smackdown branded WWE Battleground pay-per-view in Philadelphia on July 23rd.
While it’s still unknown what Cena’s role will be, the Wells Fargo Center website posted the following to advertise the appearance:
Wells Fargo Center is excited to announce the addition of “Free Agent” John Cena to WWE Battleground on Sunday, July 23. Now in its fifth year, WWE Battleground has turned into one of WWE’s most exciting events. What will WWE have in store when this year’s SmackDown LIVE-exclusive pay-per-view comes to the City of Brotherly Love?
Cena is now advertised for the following appearances, starting off with his Smackdown return on July 4th in Phoenix:

- SmackDown Live – July 11th (San Antonio, TX)
- SmackDown Live – July 18th (Birmingham, AL)
- Battleground PPV – July 23rd (Philadelphia, PA)
- SmackDown Live – July 25th (Richmond, VA)
- SummerSlam PPV – August 20th (Brooklyn, NY)
- WWE live event – August 21st (Albany, NY)
- WWE live event – September 17th (Shenzen, China)
