As Impact Wrestling makes a valiant attempt to clear the air of the dark cloud that has been hovering over them for so long, the company is spending time forming stars with the talent they currently have. One of those names is Braxton Sutter. Known for over a decade in the independent circuit as Pepper Parks, Sutter made his pay-per-view debut one year ago at Slammiversary against James Storm. Since then, he has been a top contender in the X Division, and has continued to gain fan support.
Throughout 2017, Sutter has become involved in one of the most marquee angles on television. For a number of weeks, Sutter was blackmailed by Maria, which forced him to reject training Allie, who was breaking away from Maria’s tyranny. Sutter was forced to marry Laurel Van Ness, and a wedding was set. At the wedding, Sutter declined the offer to wed Van Ness, and stated that he was in love with Allie. He has since been involved in a feud with Allie against Van Ness, GFW Women’s Champion Sienna, her cousin KM, and their hired gun Kongo Kong.
To hype the upcoming Slammiversary on July 2 and the Impact Wrestling tour of India, I sat down with Sutter on the Pancakes and Powerslams Show to discuss a number of topics.
Here are the highlights.
Sutter hypes Slammiversary:
“I personally like when storylines take their time and they unfold over a longer period of time. And we created a buildup [with the wedding], and now we’re still going from that with the whole thing between me and Laurel Van Ness and Allie. And now Sienna is involved, and Kongo Kong, and KM. So, Slammiversary, being Impact’s biggest pay per view of the year, for [the angle] to unfold at one time, I think it’ll be pretty good.”
Sutter comments on WWE having too many pay-per-views:
“For me, I’m still a fan too, and I hate when pay-per-view matches get announced like the week before. That’s the point of the pay-per-view, it’s supposed to be a big event, and you’re supposed to look and see what happens. If this match just got announced a week before, it’s not much to get emotionally involved in. That’s why I’m happy with our current angle and story at Impact. It’s cool, because they’ve really been taking their time with it.”
Sutter comments on whether Mahal’s title win was a way to intercept Impact going to India:
“I’m not a big believer in coincidence, and I don’t think it was a coincidence that we just happened to go India and film, it was a first-time-ever thing for an [American] company to [televise]. Khali ran shows there, but no one has actually filmed national television there. So, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that right before we went there to go film national television, Jinder [Mahal] won the title, and now, of course, [WWE] is going to try and head over there and jump on board.”
