WWE Smackdown Results (5/16): Randy Orton vs Baron Corbin, Jinder Mahal Takes on AJ Styles, Backlash Contract Signing

– Sami Zayn is backstage, and announces that Shane McMahon granted him a match against Baron Corbin at WWE Backlash. He says he may not be as big or as strong, but he is a threat to Corbin because he is a constant reminder that Corbin is not as dominant as he thinks he is. Corbin comes out of nowhere and attacks him from behind. He tells Zayn to learn how to stay down, because if he doesn’t, he’s going to put him down permanently on Sunday.

RANDY ORTON vs. BARON CORBIN

They got into a shoving contest before locking up, in which Orton immediately went to a side headlock. Corbin struggled free but the champion held onto the hold, flipping him over and maintaining the headlock. Corbin rolled out of the ring to break the hold, then came back in from the other side and laid out Orton with a massive clothesline.

After the break, Corbin is putting the boots to Orton in the corner, stomping away over and over again. The referee got in the way several times, threatening to disqualify him, so he pulled him back to the center of the ring and hit him with another big clothesline. Corbin is in total control, lighting up the champ with big right hands and elbows. Orton crawls to his feet but is sent right back down with a massive right hook. After several minutes of mugging, the Viper sidestepped a corner attack and sent Corbin crashing into the ringpost. Orton hit a snap powerslam and the Hangman’s DDT, then set up for the RKO. Corbin fought off the finisher then caught him with Deep Six for a nearfall. He circled the ring looking for another lariat, but Orton caught him with the RKO out of nowhere for the win. Winner: Randy Orton

– Jinder Mahal came out after the match and distracted Randy Orton. The Bollywood Boys came out from the crowd and went after the champion. Orton managed to fend them off for a bit, but Jinder hit the ring and dropped him with the cobra clutch slam.
