As noted, currently suspended WWE star Alberto Del Rio is finished with the company, and will not be returning when his suspension is over. Del Rio had been unhappy creatively in WWE since his return last year, and due to an out clause in his contract, which expires in October, he is able to leave WWE and work freely anywhere he pleases.
According to The Wrestling Observer, Alberto Del Rio became unhappy in WWE as he felt numerous promises made to him were broken and never came to be. The Observer notes thing were originally supposed to be huge for Del Rio in WWE, and he was promised a main event push with Paul Heyman as his manager. The idea behind the push would have been to make Del Rio the next major Hispanic babyface star in WWE, replacing the void left by the departure of Rey Mysterio.
Early on, Vince McMahon reportedly treated Del Rio so well that the two would fly together and even sat next to each other on the company jet. But Alberto Del Rio’s eventual pairing with Zeb Colter, which was a Vince McMahon idea, was a mismatch for a number of reasons. When the pairing didn’t work, McMahon moved on to his next project in WWE.
The report adds Del Rio was always said to be a Vince McMahon guy, and Del Rio’s issues privately were with Paul “Triple H” Levesque. It’s being said, however, that if Vince really wanted Del Rio to be one of the company’s top guys, Vince would have worked hard to smooth over the issues between Del Rio and Triple H.
