We asked our viewers who wrestled the best match of January 2015 – here are the results:
- Lesnar vs. Cena vs. Rollins at WWE Royal Rumble (84.65%)
- Nakamura vs. Ibushi at Wrestle Kingdom (8.58%)
- AJ Styles vs. Naito (3.57%)
- Tanahashi vs. Okada (2.9%)
- Makabe vs. Ishii (0.3%)
Over 3,300 people voted with the Rumble title match running away with the whole thing. This was pretty much a foregone conclusion, given the vast majority of our readership is WWE-only fans.
There are other publications like the Wrestling Observer whose subscribers are more familiar with the New Japan product, but given that I’ve made it my mission to cover the promotion in 2015, I think almost 300 people voting for Nakamura vs. Ibushi is a good place to start.
Both the triple threat and the IWGP Intercontinental title matches were fantastic. More people watched the Rumble in the U.S., obviously, but it’s a testament to the WWE trio that those who have seen both matches told me they had a hard time picking.
Tanahashi vs. Okada was easily the number two or three match, and was likely edged out because AJ Styles is the more well-known name among our readers. January was a great month in terms of match quality, as it’s not very often we get five matches worth putting on a “best of” list, where all of them actually deserve to be there.
