Taboo Tuesday Buyrate, SmackDown!; & More WWE News Inside

The numbers for the most recent two PPVs in one-month experiment are not what the WWE were looking for. The company released the preliminary numbers this week, the 10/3 No Mercy PPV did about 190,000 buys while Taboo Tuesday did about 170,000 buys. These are the first two shows in company history to do less than 225,000 buys.

Taboo Tuesday comes out on DVD on 11/23.

Starting with next Thursday’s edition of Smackdown, there is some serious concern within WWE as to the effect that the season premiere of FOX’s series “The O. C.” will have on Smackdown’s ratings next week, and for the weeks thereafter. For one thing, “The O. C.” was a huge hit among teens and young adults when it aired on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. last season (finishing first in both demographics, which of course WWE covets). So far Smackdown has faired well against strong competition such as Survivor, CSI, Joey and The Apprentice 2.
