SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis admits to thinking he could do better than certain WWE talent in the ring.
Nick Aldis made his WWE in-ring debut against GUNTHER at Night One of SummerSlam. It was also the first time he competed in a match since October 2023. Despite tapping out to the Ring General, he appeared to be in good spirits when he addressed his return to the ring while speaking on WWE Now immediately after his match.
Host Sam Roberts pointed out that people are very fond of seeing Nick Aldis as the SmackDown GM. However, he asked how Aldis felt about not actively lobbying backstage with WWE executives to make his in-ring debut for nearly three years.
Nick Aldis takes pride in never pushing WWE to get him in the ring
Nick Aldis replied that he takes pride in never lobbying WWE executives for specific storylines or matches. He also admitted that he watched other wrestlers and believed he could perform much better in their place. However, he chose not to ask management to put him in the ring until the opportunity presented itself.
“Yeah, I never, never, ever once did that, and I take quite a lot of pride in that. I never, ever lobbied, never went to Hunter (Triple H) or Bruce (Prichard) or Michael (Hayes) and said, ‘You could put me in an angle with him,'” Nick Aldis began.
“And trust me, there were many times where I, and this is not to throw shade at anyone. But there were many times where I would see certain talent, you know, and sort of go, ‘How do you, like, I could have nailed that, you know? Like, what are you doing? Have some intensity,'” Aldis said.
