Chad Gable Wins First Singles Title In His Hometown At WWE SummerSlam

Chad Gable finally captured the Intercontinental Championship at WWE SummerSlam.

Chad Gable challenged Penta for the Intercontinental Championship in the penultimate match of WWE SummerSlam Night Two in his hometown of Minneapolis. Gable had tried to win the title several times over the years, but never managed to do so. This time, he went into the event set on finally capturing the gold that had always eluded him.

The two contenders shook hands before the bell rang. Chad Gable looked to end things early with a leg lock takedown on Penta and attempted an Ankle Lock, but the luchador fought out of it. After some back-and-forth, Penta took Gable down with a superkick, bulldog, and a backbreaker. He went for the pin, but Gable kicked out.

Chad Gable then caught Penta with a German Suplex. He hit another one with a pin combination for a near fall. The luchador regained control and sent Gable crashing into the turnbuckle, and the latter hurt his shoulder. However, Gable bounced back with a clothesline and attempted a moonsault, only for Penta to kick him down.

The luchador went for another Mexican Destroyer, but Chad Gable moved out of the way and got Penta in an Ankle Lock, forcing him to tap out. With this victory, Gable secured the first singles title of his WWE career. Penta placed the title around Gable’s waist after the match. The new champion then delivered a passionate promo in front of his hometown crowd and celebrated with his family in the ring.
