In pro wrestling, toughness is usually measured inside the ring. However, for CM Punk, what he did outside the ring is getting a lot of respect right now. After a very physical main event at WrestleMania 42, he received a heap of praise for his work ethic and mindset.
That match capped off a monumental night. Punk faced Roman Reigns in the Night 2 main event for the World Heavyweight Championship. It was an intense match, with big moments like Punk crashing through tables, hitting a flying elbow through the announce desk, etc. In the end, Reigns won after hitting two spears.
Anybody would like a day off after going through such a grueling match, especially at 47, but not CM Punk.
CM Punk returned to training the morning after his WrestleMania match
Well-known strength coach Jay Ferruggia recently shared a post on Instagram about Punk. Ferruggia, who has years of experience training top athletes, revealed that Punk showed up for a full workout the very next morning after his WrestleMania match.
The former WWE World Heavyweight Champion went to train at the famous Dragon’s Lair Gym less than a day later. He did a “pull day” workout. Ferruggia praised his mindset and called it the kind of work ethic champions have.
Ferruggia wrote in the caption-
“When @cmpunk gave me a hug at ringside after his 5 star classic WrestleMania main event. He thanked me and said…“I’ll see ya in the gym tomorrow morning.”
I wasn’t sure if it was the adrenaline talking or not. He just had a hell of a battle and went through two tables. So I wouldn’t be surprised if he wanted to take a day off. But like clockwork he checked in with me the next morning and asked what time I wanted to train. And we went to @the_dragons_lair and smashed a pull day. This is the mindset and work ethic of champions. This is how you get to the top. This is how you become the best. This is how everyone should operate.”
This is even more impressive considering Punk’s age. Instead of slowing down, he came into WrestleMania in amazing shape, probably more fit than ever. This transformation came from a strict six-week training program with Ferruggia. It included intense workouts, proper recovery, and strength training.
