The latest round of WWE roster cuts following WrestleMania 42 has sparked strong reactions, but one particular decision has drawn pointed criticism from Bully Ray — and it centers on timing as much as talent.
Speaking on Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray questioned WWE’s handling of Zoey Stark’s release, especially given her recent recovery from a long-term injury.
While releases are nothing new in the post-Mania cycle, this situation appears to have struck a different chord.
Bully Ray questions WWE’s handling of Zoey Stark’s release
Stark was released on April 24, 2026, as part of a broader roster reduction that included more than 20 names. Her case stood out because she had spent nearly a year rehabbing a serious knee injury sustained in May 2025, which involved tears to her ACL, MCL, and meniscus.
According to reports, Stark had just been medically cleared to return to in-ring action before her release. That detail became the focal point of Bully Ray’s criticism.
“Think about what she’s going through right now,” he said, highlighting the emotional toll of the situation. He continued, “I tried for a whole year to come back only to have you tell me you’re not even going to give me an opportunity… Not even one match back.”
Bully Ray emphasized that the issue wasn’t just business — it was about fairness. “To me, that’s not right,” he added. “Give her one match back… give her an opportunity after she rehabbed herself.”
At the same time, he acknowledged that Stark’s main roster run had its challenges. He noted that some of her promos felt “forced.” Moreover, he felt that she struggled to connect with her presentation in the Pure Fusion Collective. Still, he made it clear that performance concerns shouldn’t override basic opportunity.
Stark later confirmed her departure on social media, calling the moment “God’s plan” while thanking WWE for helping her achieve her dreams.
The situation leaves a lingering question for WWE’s talent pipeline — when the comeback story is ready, shouldn’t it at least get one more chapter before the final bell rings?
