Chris Sabin Breaks Silence On WWE Release

Chris Sabin confirmed his WWE status… and plugged another project he’s got going on.

Sabin and his tag team partner, Alex Shelley, were part of Friday’s batch of WWE releases. The duo, known together as the Motor City Machine Guns, parted ways with the company in a surprising fashion.

Chris Sabin not only commented on his WWE status but also clarified that WWE had released the Machine Guns (rather than letting their contracts expire).

“Yup, they released us. Anyways, check out our band GRPPLNG here’s a link to pre order our 4 song EP. Love you all,” Sabin wrote on Twitter/X.

The duo had been in WWE since October 2024, winning the WWE Tag Team Championship in their second week on SmackDown. The Motor City Machine Guns held the titles for 42 days before dropping them to DIY.

Prior to joining WWE, Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley were a highly decorated team, winning titles in TNA and Ring of Honor. Last year, the Machine Guns told Shakiel Mahjouri of SHAK Wrestling that wanting to work for Triple H was a major reason for them signing with WWE.

“We have no idea whose idea it was to bring us in,” Alex Shelley admitted. “What I can say, though, we talked directly to Paul, Triple H, and he treated us with the utmost respect. A huge factor in our decision was that we wanted to be players on his team. We wanted to be a part of the WWE machine, specifically with him leading the charge. That to me was something that was always at the front of our minds.”
