Kairi Sane has commented on her WWE departure.
Sane was part of the latest round of WWE talent cuts on Friday. She posted the following message on social media, thanking fans for their support over the years:
“I’m truly grateful to have people like you by my side. Thank you for always being with me,” Kairi Sane wrote. “I’ll set sail… in my own time ⛵️ Until then… I love you ❤️”
Kairi Sane had primarily been with WWE since 2016, where she debuted in the Mae Young Classic tournament. Sane returned to Japan and competed for STARDOM and New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 2022 and 2023. She returned to WWE in 2023 to join the Damage CTRL stable with Bayley, Dakota Kai, IYO SKY and Asuka.
Her last match was a tag team loss to RHIYO (IYO SKY & Rhea Ripley) on the April 20 episode of RAW. The week prior, she defeated Asuka in a singles match on the April 13 episode of RAW.
During her time in the company, Kairi Sane won the NXT Women’s Championship once and held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Asuka three times. In addition, she is also the 2017 Mae Young Classic winner.
Sane’s release is a source of frustration for many, as she was involved in an ongoing storyline with Asuka and IYO SKY. According to Fightful (via Fightful Select), many were shocked to hear Sane was being let go, noting how she was actively involved in the Asuka and IYO SKY angle. Despite the feelings about her release, Sane is expected to join “any company that she wants to.”
