Grayson Waller says his ties to the Philadelphia Eagles are deep, unlike the “fake” Eagles fans like Cody Rhodes.
Waller isn’t your typical Eagles fan, as he’s a native of Australia. However, Waller proudly cheers for the “Birds” and has even used his Eagles fandom to hilariously troll opposing teams’ fanbases. During an interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, Waller credited the Madden NFL video game for inspiring him to take on the Eagles as his favorite team.
“So, unlike Cody Rhodes, who’s a fake Eagles fan, he just decided because he went to the stadium one time. My first Madden I ever played as a kid, I used Donovan McNabb. And Donovan McNabb is sick. And for me, having a team in the NFL is much more fun than just watching it. So as a kid, I just stuck with the Eagles. Luckily, I chose a good team. If I chose the Browns or something like that on Madden, I could be really struggling right now. So thank God I got the Birds.
McNabb appeared on the Madden NFL 06 cover at the height of his career. Arguably one of the most popular editions of the game, Waller says the franchise is still a hit in the WWE locker room.
“Using McNabb, he was good fun. He could he could run with the ball too, which is always a dream if you played Madden, if your quarterback can run. Madden is getting a little comeback in the locker room right now. So some of the boys are playing Madden on days on Raw. So we’re getting a little competitive.”

Waller credited Kofi Kingston as one of the top Madden players in the locker room, but also noted that he’s a bit of a dark horse himself. Waller also said Bron Breakker, who recently returned to WWE TV from injury, is also “pretty good” too.
As far as his in-ring career goes, Waller is desperate to get back on the winning side of things. In addition to eyeing a fight with Tony Hinchcliffe, Waller says he’s extremely motivated right now and sees himself winning the WWE Intercontinental Championship this year.
“I’m super motivated right now. Probably more motivated than I’ve ever been. I think having breaks, as it is from in-ring contests, you can go two ways. You can be upset, or you can be hungrier for more. I’m super hungry right now. So for me personally, I just want to get myself back in that ring,” he explained.
“Then, especially that Intercontinental title, that’s the one that I’ve been looking at for a while. Seeing the guys in the ladder match this weekend, there’s those guys that I have been in the ring with. Those are guys that I’ve competed against. I think that belt is something that I deserve and that’s something I’m going to take this year.”
