Randy Orton Reveals Plan To Surpass John Cena’s WWE Title Record Before Retirement

Randy Orton has outlined an ambitious goal ahead of WrestleMania 42, revealing plans that could reshape WWE’s record books — though the full picture of his strategy is still unfolding.

Speaking in a sit-down interview released April 16, the Viper made it clear that his upcoming Undisputed WWE Championship match against Cody Rhodes carries more than just short-term stakes.

During the interview with Wade Barrett, Orton didn’t hesitate to spell out his next milestones. “Next thing on the list for me to accomplish is that 15th world championship. Then I beat HHH. And then I’ve got Ric Flair and John Cena in my sights,” he said.

He added, “My goal is to leave this company one day with more world championship gold around my waist than any other competitor that has ever stepped foot into a WWE ring.”

Orton currently sits at 14 world title reigns, tied with Triple H. A victory at WrestleMania 42 would push him to 15, one step closer to the summit occupied by John Cena, who finished with 17 recognized reigns.

The timing is crucial. Orton earned his title opportunity by winning the Elimination Chamber match in February, pinning Rhodes in the process. Since then, he has leaned fully into his “Viper” persona, striking quickly and leaving little doubt about his intent to shed any remaining hesitation — or, as some might say, to strike before the final bell tolls.

Despite a history of back injuries, Orton stated he feels “better than he has in over a decade,” reinforcing his commitment to a full-time run. His five-year contract extension, signed in 2024, gives him a runway through 2029 to chase history.

With Pat McAfee backing him and adding pressure through a public ultimatum, the stakes continue to rise. If Orton wins, the path to history becomes clearer. If not, the climb gets steeper.

As WrestleMania 42 approaches, the former WWE Champion isn’t just hunting a title — he’s stalking a legacy that could outlast even the longest reigns.
