Royce Keys’ WWE SmackDown Debut Draws Lukewarm Fan Reaction

Royce Keys finally stepped into the spotlight on the April 10 episode of SmackDown, but while the moment had been building for weeks, the crowd response told a different story.

After appearing in the 2026 Men’s Royal Rumble, Keys had yet to feature on weekly television — making this debut feel like a long-awaited arrival.

However, when the bell rang, the reaction inside the arena didn’t quite match the anticipation surrounding his first singles outing.

Fans react to Royce Keys’ WWE SmackDown debut

Keys was introduced through a brief video package highlighting his background before making his way to the ring to face Humberto Carrillo.

Early in the match, he showcased his strength with a snap scoop powerslam and controlled stretches, even as Angel Garza attempted to tip the scales at ringside.

Carrillo briefly turned the tide with a distraction-assisted shove into the ring post and a missile dropkick, but Keys quickly regained momentum. From there, the match shifted gears — or rather, hit a spinebuster of a turning point — as Keys powered through with a fallaway slam, running powerslam, and ultimately sealed the win with a spinning spinebuster.

Despite the decisive victory, fan reaction online painted a more muted picture. @WuPacAP wrote, “damn royce keys debut was so mid lol crowd did not give 1 shit.” Similarly, @LavonteFSmith_ noted, “No pop for Royce Keys. WWE dropped the ball.”

Others pointed to timing as a factor. @Williamlucero_1 commented that the delay in his television debut may have cooled interest, while @VicNeumann1 highlighted the silence from fans who had previously called for his usage. Meanwhile, @thexofdamo summed it up bluntly: “I’m so sad the crowd is literally mid for this.”

The performance itself showed flashes of dominance — but as any wrestler knows, getting the win is only half the battle. Getting the reaction is the real main event.

With SmackDown finally giving Keys a platform, the next few weeks could determine whether this debut was a slow burn — or a missed cue.
