Nikki Bella recently suffered an ankle injury during a tag team match against Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss on WWE SmackDown.
Near the end of the match, Nikki was limping and struggling to stand properly. WWE medical staff even checked on her at ringside while the match was still going on.
WWE later confirmed that Nikki is currently rehabbing the injury. The injury reportedly happened during a moment with Charlotte Flair, possibly when her ankle twisted awkwardly during a move.
Nikki Bella believed she had broken her ankle but finished the match
In an interview with Angie Martinez, Nikki said the injury came at a really bad time and that she is still waiting for MRI results. Nikki explained that she got hurt almost right at the start of the match. But she kept wrestling, which surprised even her.
“In our match on Friday…So we had… it was our second tag match back together, and it happened right in the beginning of the match, and I finished the match. I can’t believe I finished the match, and I stressed out my poor sister,” Nikki said.
Brie Bella then shared that Nikki actually thought she had broken her ankle during the match.
“This is my second match back in eight years…so much anxiety…and her first tag. So she tags me, and as I’m about to come in, she goes, ‘Oh, I think I broke my ankle.’ And we’re on live television. I was like, ‘Huh? Do we need to call the match?” Brie said.
Nikki later said the pain was so intense that she really believed it was broken.
“I thought it possibly could be (broken), because I’ve had a break before, and the rush that was going through my calf, and I couldn’t put weight on it. I was like, ‘Oh, I think I just broke my ankle,’” Nikki said.
Still, she kept going for another 10 to 12 minutes and even performed tough moves like a double suplex.
Nikki also said this injury hurt more than the neck injury she once had, which required surgery. However, she didn’t want to let anyone down, so she pushed through the match.
Right now, Nikki Bella is recovering. However, The Bella Twins have to compete in a Fatal Four-Way match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship at WrestleMania 42.
