Tony Khan Breaks Silence on TNA Pulling Talent From Matches With AEW Stars

Tony Khan has finally addressed the growing situation involving TNA talent being pulled from scheduled matches with AEW stars, shedding light on what appears to be a sudden shift behind the scenes.

The AEW President spoke with David Shoemaker & Kazeem Famuyide on Ringer Wrestling, offering his perspective on the situation. He hinted that the finish to this story may have changed mid-match.

Khan admitted he was “surprised” by the decision, explaining that he believed all parties had already agreed to the appearances.

According to him, both MJF and Ricochet had approached him directly about working the independent shows. He approved their involvement without hesitation.

“I was surprised… they both told me everybody had gotten it approved,” Khan said, before adding that “somebody on the other side must’ve changed their mind.” While he acknowledged that the decision ultimately lies with TNA, the sudden reversal appears to have caught AEW off guard.

The affected matches included MJF vs. Nic Nemeth, which was scheduled for a Create-A-Pro Wrestling event on May 1, and Ricochet vs. Leon Slater at the WrestleCon Supershow. Both bouts had generated interest, with fans eager to see cross-promotional clashes. These matchups emerged as the kind that usually feel like dream matches rather than dark matches.

Khan also made it clear that AEW did not initiate these bookings. Instead, the requests came from the talent themselves, further reinforcing that the plans were initially moving forward with mutual understanding.

While disappointed, Khan maintained a measured tone. The AEW President noted that TNA is “entitled” to change its stance. He also expressed hope that the situation could still be resolved, stating that fans want to see these matches come together.

For now, the situation remains unresolved.
