Chris Benoit’s son, David Benoit, was spotted backstage with several top AEW stars.
This week’s episode of AEW Dynamite took place at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. David Benoit, the son of the late former WWE star Chris Benoit, was backstage at the event and took some pictures with Cope, Christian Cage, and Chris Jericho.
He shared the photo on Instagram with the caption, “‘Thankfully, I had the benefit of flash photography for a 5 second pose’ only the cool kids will get it.”
David Benoit is the son of Chris Benoit and his first wife, Martina, and has a sister named Megan. While he had wrestling aspirations, his father’s double murder and suicide incident in 2007 hindered his chances of signing with any major promotion.
He’s been to other Canadian shows before, and Chris Jericho has maintained a close relationship with him over the years. Jericho has mentored David and supported him after his father’s 2007 incident.
Apart from the photo with Cope, Christian Cage, and Chris Jericho, David Benoit also clicked a picture with AEW’s Ricochet.
Chris Benoit’s threat kept WWE Hall of Famer from quitting wrestling
Speaking on a recent episode of the Busted Open Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry shared that he had a difficult time in the early 2000s, dealing with injuries and self-doubt, which almost led him to retirement. He shared that a dislocated shoulder a few weeks before WrestleMania left him mentally drained, and that if it weren’t for Chris Benoit, he would’ve quit the business.
“If I hadn’t had Chris Benoit, I would’ve quit the business,” Henry admitted. “I dislocated my shoulder right before Mania, three weeks out. I’d pass a mirror and start crying. I felt like I let the boys down, I let the business down,” he said. At one point, he told Benoit, “I don’t think my heart is in it.
“He said, ‘I will come to your house and fight you every day if you don’t get your a*s back in here,’” he recalled. Henry’s response was simple: “Yeah, I don’t think I want to fight Chris every day.”
