An AEW star made a long-awaited return on the April 8, 2026, episode of Dynamite, stepping straight into a title match after months on the sidelines — but the night didn’t quite end with her hand raised.
The comeback took place at Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, where Queen Aminata re-entered the spotlight following a lengthy absence due to injury.
Queen Aminata falls short in AEW TBS title match return
Aminata challenged Willow Nightingale for the AEW TBS Championship in her first match back, wasting no time jumping into deep waters — or, in wrestling terms, going straight into a title fight without a warm-up match.
Despite nearly six months away with a serious neck and spine injury, Aminata showed little ring rust. Early in the match, she caught Nightingale off guard with a fisherman neckbreaker and followed up with quick offense, forcing the champion to regroup.
As the match progressed, both competitors traded momentum. Aminata landed a running kick and later connected with a diving double stomp, scoring multiple nearfalls. However, Nightingale responded with power offense, including a Death Valley Driver and a cannonball senton to the outside.
The turning point came late, as Aminata attempted to finish the match with another high-impact move. Nightingale countered the shift in momentum, eventually delivering a Doctor Bomb to secure the pinfall and retain the title.
The loss may sting, but Aminata proved she’s still a serious contender — even after taking a long “time-out” from in-ring action.
Before her injury, Aminata had built momentum across AEW and Ring of Honor, including reaching the finals of a tournament to crown the inaugural ROH Women’s World Television Champion. She also confirmed earlier this year that her AEW contract runs through February 2027.
With Dynamite moving forward and the women’s division heating up, Aminata’s return adds another strong presence back into the mix.
