Carmelo Hayes Reacts To Rumors About Reason For WWE US Title Loss

Carmelo Hayes knows just the place to address his WWE United States Championship loss.

The March 27 episode of WWE SmackDown featured a shocking title change. Sami Zayn ended Carmelo Hayes’ 98-day run with the title. Zayn’s victory was somewhat tainted, as he received unexpected help from Trick Williams against Melo.

SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced that Zayn would defend the United States Championship against Trick Williams at WrestleMania 42. The announcement drew backlash, as fans felt Melo was deprived of the opportunity to compete at the marquee PLE.

Appearing on the Battleground Podcast, Carmelo Hayes was asked to address rumors that he lost the WWE United States Championship due to his wedding. Melo suggested fans tune into SmackDown, saying it would be the appropriate forum to address his title loss.

“This probably is not the platform for that. We’ve got SmackDown on Friday, and I think that would be a more appropriate platform to address what’s going on. I’m heartbroken that I’m not champion anymore. That was something I took a lot of pride in. We’ll see what’s on the table for WrestleMania, but as far as that goes, I think SmackDown is probably the appropriate platform for that.”

Hayes also confirmed that he’s not married yet, but he and Kelani Jordan are going to get married in October. The “wedding” photos everyone thought they saw were actually engagement photos.
