A familiar face made an unexpected stop at the March 26 OVW Rise event in Louisville, Kentucky, as WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley appeared — though not quite in the way fans might have anticipated.
The “Hardcore Legend” was initially advertised for a meet-and-greet at Davis Arena, but as the night unfolded, Foley’s role took a turn that added an extra layer of chaos to an already heated main event.
Mick Foley steps in as Special Guest Referee During OVW Rise Main Event
Foley’s involvement didn’t stay confined to the pre-show. During the Louisville Street Fight between Donovan Cecil and Jack Vaughn, the Hall of Famer stepped into the ring as the special guest referee — proving he can still “call it down the middle,” even if things rarely stay that way in a street fight.
As expected, the match quickly broke down into a hard-hitting brawl. In the closing moments, Foley reached into his bag of tricks — quite literally — bringing back Mr. Socko. The nostalgic assist helped swing momentum, allowing Cecil to secure the victory in a finish that felt both chaotic and classic Foley.
While Foley has long stepped away from active competition — his last in-ring appearance dating back to the 2012 Royal Rumble — moments like this show he can still make an impact without taking a bump. In true Foley fashion, he didn’t just referee the match — he added a little “hardcore history” to it.
This appearance also comes during a notable shift in Foley’s relationship with WWE. He previously confirmed he would not renew his Legends contract when it expires in June 2026, citing personal and political differences.
Instead, his work with OVW signals a continued commitment to the wrestling world, particularly in mentoring emerging talent.
Foley’s surprise role may not have been on the original card, but much like a well-timed Socko, it landed right when it mattered.
