What better way to make a big statement than to take out one of AEW’s top names in Toni Storm? Maya World might be on to something here…
Maya World spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard ahead of her appearance at ROH/MLP Global Wars. The AEW/ROH star highlighted a few names on her wrestling bucket list, including Mercedes Moné and ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm. She got a chance to face the latter in a tag team match during AEW’s Texas residency in January, noting she’d love another round with them, as well as a match with Jamie Hayter.
World praised Storm for going all in with her ‘Timeless’ character, noting that she’s been a fan for many years. She called ‘Timeless’ a major evolution for Storm, who portrayed a more rock-n-roll-esque character in years prior.
“It’s definitely a big evolution from what she used to be, but she still hits hard and can still drop you on your head, which she did to me, unfortunately. It was definitely different from the Toni I first watched,” Maya World explained. “She’s much more entertaining now — you’re in the ring with her, and you try not to laugh at the little things she does, even though the clothesline is coming right at your head. She’s amazing, no matter what she’s doing, character-wise.”
Who attacked Toni Storm?
Toni Storm was attacked on the March 18 episode of AEW Dynamite before her scheduled match with Marina Shafir. AEW addressed Storm’s absence on Wednesday, claiming she will be out for a long time. Recent reports suggest that AEW has a creative plan in place for this mystery attacker, and it seems like their identity will be revealed before Storm returns.
When asked who she thinks could be behind the attack, Maya World pointed to someone she has recent history with, ROH Women’s World Champion Athena and her M.I.T. stable.
“I wasn’t there, so I knew it wasn’t me, but I’ve got my eyes on a lot of those women,” she explained. “They all act like they don’t know what happened, but I know somebody does. Who do I think did it?
“Someone who wanted to make a statement but is hiding. You really put me on the spot here,” she continued. “I’ve been feuding with Athena, and they seem like the kind of people who would hide their hand, make a big statement, and take out Toni. So probably M.I.T. and Athena.”
Maya World will compete at ROH/MLP Global Wars alongside her tag team partner, Hyan, on Friday, March 27. The event will air live on Triller TV and on demand on ROH HonorClub.
