On the March 20, 2026, episode of WWE SmackDown, Randy Orton delivered an intense promo, where he made it clear that he now cares more about his legacy than anything else.
The Viper came out to the ring as fans sang along to his entrance music. But instead of reacting like usual, he slowed things down. He placed the same chair he used to attack Cody Rhodes last week in the middle of the ring, sat down, and started talking directly to the crowd.
Randy Orton spoke about his long career and his bond with fans. He mentioned things like high-fives, signing autographs, and making small moments special, especially for kids. He said even something simple like wishing a child happy birthday can become a memory they never forget.
But then he officially turned on to the fans.
Randy Orton opens up about his legacy
Orton said those moments don’t make him feel the same anymore. While he used to enjoy making fans happy, that feeling has faded over time. Now, as his career gets closer to the end, he is thinking more about what really matters.
“The love that I give back, that puts a smile on my face. And that smile is the emptiest feeling that I have felt in my entire life,” he said.
I don’t want my legacy to be the moments that I gave the young fans, the high fives, the autographs, the smiles I have put on your faces. I want my legacy to be how much world championship gold I have put around my waist,” Orton added.
He also talked about recent events that changed his mindset. After winning the Elimination Chamber, he was expected to face Drew McIntyre. But things changed when Cody Rhodes became champion instead.
Orton said Rhodes is like a brother to him, and at first, he wasn’t sure about facing him. But that changed after the WWE Champion told him to bring his best side, to “listen to the voices” in his head. That comment stuck with Orton.
He admitted “listening to the voices” can be risky and can make him lose control, but he believes it’s necessary.
By the end of the promo, Orton referenced his entrance song and said the “voices” are telling him he will beat Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.
