Rumor Killer On Santos Escobar’s WWE Status

There’s a rumor killer on Santos Escobar’s status with WWE.

Following his performance at the AAA Rey de Reyes event this past Saturday, reports emerged that WWE has quietly moved Santos Escobar to the alumni section on its website. The former NXT Cruiserweight Champion had recently re-signed with the company after his contract expired in October 2025.

Now, Fightful (Via Fightful Select) has nullified those rumors, confirming that several news outlets had run with the story based on a false report. They noted that Santos Escobar has been listed in the alumni section on WWE’s website since his contract expired last year, and the company has not moved him back after he re-signed. WWE sources had confirmed with Fightful last week that Escobar is still with the promotion.

Santos Escobar had received some criticism for his performance at the AAA event, with many noting that he appeared disinterested throughout the match. Touching on that subject, Fightful noted that they haven’t heard anything specific that contributed to that. However, they did hear that Escobar wished that the company had used him better and actually booked him on the shows.

They stated that WWE made a big play to re-sign Santos Escobar after he was willing to leave the promotion last year. It was also claimed at the time that WWE had signed Escobar to an amount, which made it seem irresponsible not to use him on television.

Nevertheless, the report notes that Santos Escobar is expected to continue working in AAA.
