Ricochet can relate to Sol Ruca’s comments about growing up as a person of mixed race.
Former WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion Sol Ruca was a recent guest on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast. During the show, Ruca addressed fans who questioned her racial identity. Ruca is biracial, with a black father and white mother.
She brought up the fact that some fans question why WWE includes her among Black talent in Black History Month posts.
“I get a lot of people asking for proof. Like, ‘Oh, prove it, show me a picture of your dad.’ And then I do, and they’re like, ‘He’s mixed, he’s not full Black.’ It always baffles my mind every time people start finding out again. I feel like it goes in waves of people, like, ‘Oh, I didn’t know she was Black.’ All this stuff. I’m like, guys, I understand how I look, but genes are crazy,” Ruca said.
Ruca also pointed out that she never claimed to be a Black woman, and although it’s a hard topic to navigate, she’s proud of who she is.
AEW Star Ricochet agrees with Sol Ruca’s
AEW National Champion Ricochet commented on a post featuring Ruca’s quotes, stating that he agrees with her. Ricochet is also mixed race, and he says it was tricky growing up as a child, but has been more accepted as an adult.
“I agree with her,” he wrote on Twitter/X. “As a mixed kid growing up in Kentucky in the early 90’s I was a black kid to the white people and I was a white kid to the black people.
“But as I grew older I felt so much more acceptance and most all my friends were from the black community. So naturally thats what felt right for me. But it took me a while to understand and realize that being mixed is the best!”
