Ricochet will take on a former WWE NXT star.
Upon the creation of the AEW National Championship, All Elite Wrestling CEO Tony Khan made it clear that the title would be a traveling one, especially as AEW seeks to spread its name further across the globe. So far, reigning National Champion Ricochet has taken the title to places such as Wales, Mexico, and Las Vegas. Looking ahead, he will bring it to Rahway, New Jersey, as well.
As announced on X, Ricochet will put the National Title on the line against former WWE NXT star Sidney Akeem (previously known as Reggie and Scrypts).
“AEW National Championship to be defended at WrestlePro X,” WrestlePro wrote, confirming the title bout for its April 4 event in New Jersey. “AEW National Championship Ricochet (c) vs Sidney Akeem. Two of the most explosive, gravity-defying athletes in the world collide for the AEW National Championship. Don’t blink because you will miss something unreal!”
Heading into the match, Ricochet seems confident of the outcome. “Im bout to beat his ass,” he wrote alongside a crown emoji.
Since leaving WWE in 2024, Akeem has remained a free agent, with notable appearances in Major League Wrestling, TNA, and Ring of Honor. His most recent ROH outing occurred over the weekend at tapings held in Jacksonville, Florida.
Ricochet claimed the AEW National Championship by winning a Casino Gauntlet match at Full Gear in November. Since then, he’s successfully defended against the likes of Jack Perry, Ace Austin, and Dalton Castle.
