Wrestling fans had a polarizing reaction to Danhausen’s WWE debut at Elimination Chamber.
After a lot of speculation since WWE introduced it on the February 16 episode of RAW, the promotion unveiled what was inside the mystery crate at Elimination Chamber.
Adam Pearce and Nick Aldis finally opened the crate near the stage before the main event, revealing a wooden coffin inside. Former AEW star Danhausen emerged from it with a bunch of dancers wearing face paint. They marched down the ramp and, after handing Michael Cole a jar of teeth, Danhausen joined the dancers in the ring before disappearing when the lights went out.
While he was part of the fan speculation surrounding the crate, Danhausen received a mixed reaction when he came out. He was cheered at first, but a significant part of the crowd at the United Center erupted in boos when the lights went out. The IWC is also divided on social media.
“LMFAO….@WWE brought in that stiff Danhausen and the Chicago crowd was like WTF! All this hype of that crate and they delivered that guy…. what an EPIC FAIL!” one fan posted.
“They did it, they managed to destroy Danhausen with the worst possible introduction. He should have been in a spot on smackdown. Have someone say Joe Hendry, look around and instead of Joe, Danhausen popps up from behind commentary, now THAT would have gotten a better reaction,” another said.
Some fans had a positive outlook on Danhausen’s debut
“Genuine opportunity for Danhausen to get over well if people sell getting the curse put on em also think it’d be cool if after somebody gets cursed, they have bad luck for the next few weeks,” one fan said.
“Everyone hating on Danhausen will ask for his push when he gets to actually entertain, move merch, and do what Chelsea is doing right now. Stand by and bookmark your whining,” another fan wrote.
Some fans also expressed concern over how WWE will use Danhausen, citing Royce Keys’ absence since his debut at the Royal Rumble.
