Blake Monroe Breaks Silence on Botched Finish Against Thea Hail

Blake Monroe has shared her thoughts on the controversial finish that led to her losing the North American Championship to Thea Hail.

A few months ago on WWE NXT Blake Monroe faced Thea Hail in a North American title match. The finish saw Hail hit a springboard Coffin Drop and went for the cover. The referee counted to three just as Monroe lifted her shoulder but it was a split second too late.

The decision stood, and Monroe lost the title in shocking fashion. After the match, reports claimed that the title change was not originally planned. Monroe was expected to retain the championship.

The sudden title switch reportedly caused chaos backstage as the Christmas pre show for set for the night, forcing creative plans to change. Speaking on Notsam Wrestling with Sam Roberts, Blake Monroe addressed the situation with her usual confidence.

She said, “I mean look, the negative is Thea Hail will always be attached to me now. I have to wrestle her next week. You’re lucky I’ve shown up today. I was going to go to therapy but I decided to be a company woman and show up.”

She then reflected on the buzz surrounding the moment. “But no – I think the theme of my career is people will talk about me, and who are you if you’re not talked about, to be honest. It was definitely shocking, and I feel like the referee was clearly in a rush to get home, he counted that quick. But no, it was definitely very exciting, and I’m gonna get my revenge next week, in under three minutes.” [H/T: Wrestletalk]

Now, months later, Monroe and Hail are set to finally settle their rivalry in a singles match this week on WWE NXT.
