John Cena is feeling great after his WWE retirement last year.
John Cena retired from in-ring competition after having his final match against Gunther at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13, 2025. He recently spoke to Joe Baiamonte on The Takedown on SI, and looking ahead to the future of the company, he noted that WWE is going through a transformation he hasn’t seen since WrestleMania 20 and 21. He believes the promotion is laying the foundation for the next 15-20 years.
Opening up about life after retirement, John Cena shared that he feels great. He noted that it was time to close the chapter on his in-ring career and that he went out with a bang last year. He finished by saying that retirement is treating him well so far.
“Gosh, we have called up a whole bunch of new superstars,” John Cena began. “The program is going through a transformation I haven’t seen since WrestleMania 20, at Madison Square Garden, and then WrestleMania goes Hollywood a year later. I think we’re in a period of transition like that, pouring the foundations for the next 15-20 years for the WWE.
“I wouldn’t say the end of my career is sad. I want to allow everyone to feel how they want to feel, but personally, I feel great. As long as I’m in one piece, I have love and fulfilment in my life, it was time to close that chapter and I really thought the last year, we went out with a bang, there were a lot of mixed opinions, but from my perspective, retirement is treating me well, so far,” John Cena said.
