WWE NXT Playfully References Booker T’s Worst Commentator Award

Booker T was recently voted 2025’s Worst Commentator by Wrestling Observer readers. His WWE NXT commentary partner, Vic Joseph, decided to have a little fun with that.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter‘s annual awards issue saw Booker win the award for worst television announcer. Booker “won” the award with 516 votes, a sizeable margin compared to Pat McAfee in second place.

Tuesday’s episode of NXT saw Vic Joseph welcome everyone to the show before introducing Booker T by referencing the award.

“Vic Joseph, alongside my ‘award-winning’ broadcast partner, Booker T,” Vic Joseph said. “[He’s a] two-time WWE Hall of Famer as well.”

Booker T and Brad Gilmore addressed the snub on the Hall of Fame podcast. Gilmore began by ripping the outlet and Dave Meltzer for saying asinine things and false statements. Booker T took a more respectful approach and defended Joseph, who was also in the top 5 of the fan voting. Booker said that Joseph shouldn’t be anywhere near a worst announcer list, then got into his critique of Meltzer, saying he is sucking the life out of the wrestling business.

“Hate is a really, really dark, evil, nasty word. And I don’t really want to go there, as far as saying I hate a person or anything like that. But Dave Meltzer is literally a scoundrel of an individual,” Booker T said. “He really is. He’s a guy that is sucking the life out of this business.”

Booker also said that he doesn’t necessarily blame Meltzer’s readers, but does place blame on Meltzer himself. He also said that he believes a past incident between the two is the real reason for Meltzer’s beef with him.
