Big E Says WWE Could Settle El Grande Americano Feud With A Border War Match

Big E offers a solution to the dual El Grande Americano controversy on WWE TV.

WWE Royal Rumble 2026 saw the return of the original El Grande Americano (Chad Gable). The OG crossed paths with his much taller and leaner counterpart, Americano No. 2 (Ludwig Kaiser), doing the iconic Spider-Man finger-pointing meme before trading shots.

The feud has since carried over into Lucha Libre AAA, where the taller El Grande Americano has received a hero’s welcome every time he enters Mexico. In America, however, the OG remains far more accepted by fans.

Both El Grande Americanos crossed paths again on WWE RAW this past Monday. The OG cost Americano No. 2 his Intercontinental Championship number one contender’s match against Penta. Americano No. 1 even tried to rip the mask off the impostor, but Rayo Americano and Bravo Americano stepped in to make the save.

Big E addresses the El Grande Americano identity crisis

During a recent episode of RAW Recap: WWE Now, co-host Sam Roberts asked Big E who he believes is the original Grande between the two El Grande Americanos.

“That’s a great question. Here’s my issue: usually, I root for the original — the guy who really started it off, the pioneer. But man, the second version, the contemporary version, is just super swaggy. He just has it. I’m sorry. He attacks a lot of my favorites, a lot of people I love and root for, but the man’s got style. See him in Mexico, like you said, he’s truly beloved. It’s really a sensation,” Big E said.

The former WWE Champion then proposed a Border War to settle the feud between the OG and contemporary Americanos.

“I feel like we need to find a border town, like El Paso or something, right along the border — or Laredo. That’d be a true marker. Let’s have a match right on the border, and I feel like that would give us the best determination of how the people feel. You’re right — in America, the original is received much better, and in Mexico, the contemporary is beloved.

“I enjoy them both. The original is super jacked, which I’m a fan of because I’m a big-body guy. I can’t help it. I’m a meathead at heart, as much as I try to run from it. So I love that. But contemporary Grande’s got style, man, and it’s undeniable,” Big E said.
