Michelle McCool Thought the McMahon Family Was Really Insane Based on WWE TV

Michelle McCool recently admitted that before joining WWE, she genuinely believed the McMahon family was “cuckoo” based on how they were portrayed on television.

The revelation came during a discussion on Six Feet Under with The Undertaker, where she joined The Undertaker and The Miz to talk about wrestling’s believability.

The conversation began with the age-old question: Is it real or fake? The Undertaker noted that most people understand what wrestling is unless they’re children. McCool quickly pushed back, joking that her whole family “still thinks” otherwise.

She then shared a candid confession. “I legitimately thought the McMahon family… like cuckoo,” McCool said. “I thought they were cuckoo from watching ’em on TV. I believed everything that they were doing was actually who they were.” In other words, the McMahon madness worked — hook, line, and storyline.

For decades, the McMahon name became synonymous to chaos, power struggles, and over-the-top family drama.

Explosive confrontations and shocking betrayals became the norm. The lines between character and reality started blurring. For viewers like McCool at the time, it wasn’t sports entertainment — it was must-see family dysfunction.

The Miz added that even today, fans who consider themselves “in the know” still ask wrestlers, “Is it real or is it fake?” The Undertaker echoed that sentiment, saying performers often hear, “Did that really happen?”

The Undertaker explained that his goal in every match was to create at least one moment so believable that the audience forgets it’s entertainment. That suspension of disbelief, even for a second, is the sweet chin music of storytelling.

McCool’s admission highlights just how convincing WWE’s on-screen drama could be. If the future Divas Champion bought in completely, the McMahons clearly understood how to make reality feel larger than life.
