Fans got a huge blast from the past when Luke Gallows suddenly brought back his old WWE Festus character at MLW Battle Riot VIII. As soon as the show aired, fans started sharing all sorts of memes and shocking and nostalgic reactions on social media.
Most fans know Gallows as Doc Gallows, thanks to his NJPW success and long partnership with Karl Anderson. But before all that, he was known in WWE as Festus, the quiet, bell-activated powerhouse from the short-lived team Jesse and Festus.
The gimmick debuted in 2007 and disappeared when Gallows left WWE in 2009. Until now.
Luke Gallows’ Festus Revival Sparks Nostalgic Fan Reactions
Battle Riot is always full of surprises, but Festus’ return was one of the top highlights. Gallows entered the match earlier as himself and was quickly eliminated. Later on, the crowd lost it when Festus slowly walked to the ring, with fans loudly chanting for the bell to be rung.
That’s when Karl Anderson stepped in and rang the bell, and it instantly flipped the switch. Festus went on a rampage, throwing people around, eliminating Ricky Martinez, and causing chaos before Alexander Hammerstone finally stopped him.
The internet went wild with all sorts of reactions.
One fan expressed his excitement and nostalgia, writing, “I HAVEN’T HEARD THIS NAME IN YEARS.”

The moment completely stole the show and proved that even a gimmick from 16 years ago can still land.
While Festus grabbed the spotlight, Killer Kross was the real winner of the night. Kross won the 40-man Battle Riot to become the new MLW World Champion, last eliminating Matt Riddle and Hammerstone. Donovan Dijak and Bishop Dyer were also in the final stretch before falling short.
It marked Kross’ first MLW World Title reign and ended Mads Krule Krugger’s 138-day run as champion.
