CM Punk has already been in the main event of one WrestleMania show, but now he’s got a new goal related to the biggest event on WWE’s calendar.
Speaking to GQ in a recent interview, Punk was asked if he has any other “bucket list” things to do now that he’s main evented a WrestleMania. For years, that had been one goal that had eluded the star. He was able to do that at WrestleMania 41, when he, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins faced off to close out night one of the show.
Because WrestleMania is now a two-night show, Punk’s new goal is fairly simple. He said he wants to main event the Sunday show, although he doesn’t view them any differently than some do. Fans and detractors of Punk alike criticized his night one main event status last year, with many believing he should get to close out one of the show’s Sunday nights.
Punk doesn’t believe Night 1 of WrestleMania is any different
“I mean, just because it’s there, probably a Night 2 main event,” Punk said. “Honestly, I don’t differentiate between the two nights. I think that’s just a way for people who are sad about their own lives to try to diminish something. I mean, Rock did a Night 1. Stone Cold Steve Austin did a Night 1. Who am I to say it’s not a main event? That’s just silly semantics to try to hate on somebody that you don’t like for whatever reason.”
Punk will have the chance to do that this year. He currently holds the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, and is rumored to potentially be facing off against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania. Should this match come together, it would almost certainly be on the final night of WrestleMania 42.
Punk went on to say that he doesn’t really have many other goals. He did mention that he would love to do something “silly,” like have a special match if able. He mentioned the classic “Coal Miner’s Glove Match” that used to take place in the wrestling days of old as an example.
“I’d be hard-pressed to really kind of think of what else [I’m striving for]. Unless it’s something really silly, like if they give me the opportunity to do something like a Coal Miner’s Glove Match,” joked Punk. “I’d really like to see if we could get that over in 2026. You know what I mean? Something weird like that.”
