Trey Miguel made a surprise return on TNA Impact and officially re-signed with the company.
Miguel recently parted ways with AEW, just days after the company announced the arrival of The Rascalz. After his release, Miguel said he planned to take a break from wrestling and later apologized for past mistakes.
Reports later stated that the decision to release Miguel came from above AEW management and was heavily linked to Warner Bros. Discovery. The situation reportedly stemmed from a homophobic post Miguel shared in 2020, which he quickly apologized for.
Several AEW talents were said to be frustrated by the decision, noting that Miguel and The Rascalz had strong relationships within the company. Some felt different standards were being applied compared to other Warner Bros. Discovery properties.
Ahead of TNA Impact, Fightful Select reported that TNA Wrestling was already in talks with Miguel about a return. That report proved accurate on the January 22 episode of Thursday Night Impact on AMC.
Miguel appeared as a surprise entrant in the Feast or Fired match. The commentary team confirmed during the broadcast that TNA had officially re-signed him, marking his return to the promotion following his shocking exit from AEW.
He made an immediate impact by pulling down briefcase number four in the Feast or Fired match. The briefcase could contain a future shot at the TNA World Championship, TNA International Championship, TNA World Tag Team Championship, or the unlucky fired briefcase.
Trey Miguel joined Steve Maclin, Eddie Edwards, and Eric Young as the briefcase winners. Three of the four will earn title opportunities, while one competitor will be fired from TNA. With his return now official, Trey Miguel has quickly placed himself back into the title picture.
