Austin Aries is set to make his in-ring return later this month.
MLW announced Austin Aries will be a participant in the titular match at its annual Battle Riot event. Aries made his MLW in-ring debut in 2025, last competing against Mistico in the Opera Cup 2025 tournament. Since then, he has primarily competed on the Canadian independent scene for CWE.
Last year, Aries signaled his return to the ring by declaring he was reborn, announcing ‘The King of Controversy’ as his new name. MLW teased Aries’ pursuit of the MLW World Championship, which he could earn a shot at by winning the Battle Riot match.
“Despite being a main eventer virtually everywhere he’s competed, one achievement has eluded Aries in MLW: championship gold. Battle RIOT VIII presents the ultimate opportunity to change that. One of the most tenured and experienced competitors in this year’s RIOT, Aries brings a cerebral, calculating approach that separates him from the pack. Two competitors begin the match. Every 60 seconds, a new combatant enters. Eliminations occur by pinfall, submission, or being thrown over the top rope with both feet hitting the floor. MLW Battle Riot VIII takes place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Osceola Heritage Park Events Center in Kissimmee, Florida. Tickets start at $10, and they are on sale now at at MLWLive.com and Ticketmaster.
