WWE World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk has hinted that another major career shift could be right around the corner.
Throughout his decades-long career, Punk has explored several paths outside the pro-wrestling ring. In addition to professional wrestling, he has competed in MMA, acted in films and television, worked as a commentator, and even written comic books. Now, directing could be the next challenge on his growing resume.
Speaking to Robbie Fox on My Mom’s Basement while promoting his upcoming movie Night Patrol, Punk was asked whether being on a film set had inspired him to direct one day. He admitted that the idea is no longer hypothetical.
“It’s been offered,” Punk said. “It’s one of those things, a lot like writing comic books or fighting in the UFC that, it was offered to me and it’s kind of unknown and scary, so now I have to do it.” He explained that the opportunity feels intimidating, but that’s exactly what makes it exciting.
Punk also shared that working on the VHS horror film series could be a good way to ease into directing. “I think the VHS series is a pretty good way to get my feet wet in that regard.” He then made it clear that this is not a distant dream. “It’s definitely something that is more than likely going to happen in the next year. I got to, it got offered to me, and I went ‘what why me?’ ‘Why not?’ Okay, now I’ve gotta do this.” [H/T: f4wonline]
CM Punk has appeared in seven movies and several television projects. His most recent role came in Zootopia 2. If he follows through on this latest opportunity, directing would mark yet another bold step in a legendary career.
