Matt Cardona Worked Hard To Get To WWE, He Worked Even Harder To Return

Chelsea Green has opened up about Matt Cardona’s long road back to WWE, explaining just how much work her husband put in to earn his return.

Last week on WWE SmackDown, Cardona made a shocking comeback as a full-time roster member. He picked up a quick win over Kit Wilson of Pretty Deadly, marking a major moment in his career.

Speaking on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Green reflected on what the moment meant and how different it felt compared to his earlier appearances. “I think I got all of my nerves out of the way when he debuted at the John Cena’s last match tournament,” Green said.

She made it clear that while her own WWE return took a lot of work, Cardona’s journey was even tougher. “It wasn’t as much nervousness as it was then in Albany. It was a different feeling because we’ve now waited for this moment for five years. I know how hard I worked to get back here, he worked even harder to get back. He worked twice as long on the indies this time around and he really reinvented himself.”

She also admitted that his return came with a new kind of nervous energy. “That was also kind of where a little bit of the nerves came into play. How are we going to go from transitioning him out of Zack Ryder and into Matt Cardona and still paying respects to who he was and the fact that some fans, they’ll only remember Zack Ryder.”

Chelsea Green explains why WWE fans don’t know the new Matt Cardona

“They won’t have known his indie run, they won’t have known that he trended worldwide for a deathmatch against Nick Gage, they won’t know that he’s the indie god or that he’s a completely different person.”

“[They won’t know that] he was never a heel in WWE and has now spent the past five years as a heel. All of those things are things we need to now introduce to the WWE Universe. So, it’s kind of a whole bunch of new nerves but it’s just more excitement than anything.” [H/T: Fightful]
