The Kabuki Warriors are no longer your Women’s Tag Team Champions on WWE RAW.
The Stranger Things-themed episode of WWE RAW on Netflix kicked off with The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane) defending the Women’s Tag Team Championship against RHIYO, consisting of Rhea Ripley and IYO SKY.
WWE also acknowledged Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement during the tag team title match on RAW. Corey Graves name-dropped the NJPW President when IYO SKY hit a Sling Blade on her opponents, noting that SKY borrowed the move from Tanahashi.
The finish of the match saw Rhea Ripley plant Asuka with a Riptide, followed by IYO SKY hitting the Empress of Tomorrow with a moonsault, before Mami pinned the fallen champion for the win.
Some fans initially believed WWE had given away the outcome of the Women’s Tag Team Championship match on SmackDown last week. The January 2 episode of the blue brand featured Ripley and SKY double-teaming Kairi Sane with back-to-back finishing moves, leading to SKY scoring the pinfall victory for her team.
However, WWE pulled a swerve by having RHIYO defeat The Kabuki Warriors clean to win the Women’s Tag Team Championship on RAW tonight. Fans will now have to wait and see which team steps up to challenge the newly crowned champions next.
