Dynamite New Year’s Smash Results:

This week’s episode of Dynamite kicks off with a recap of the AEW Worlds End pay-per-view. They then shifted things over to an in-ring promo for the newly crowned AEW World Champion, MJF.

Friedman says Swerve Strickland is the franchise, Samoa Joe is the Samoan Submission Machine, and Hangman Page is the main character, but he’s the AEW World Champion.

MJF tosses the World Championship out of the ring before revealing his new “Triple B” title on a pedestal in the ring. Friedman says some fans are upset that he’s champion again and he’s not taking it easy on their favorites. MJF says if you think you’re on the level of the devil, step up or get stepped on.

Friedman says he’s a stallion and he’s no longer waiting around for the donkeys in the back to catch up. He’s interrupted by Kenny Omega appearing on the Tron. Omega says MJF made him feel like he’s approaching the end of his career instead of the beginning. Omega says he hates that feeling. Kenny ponders what would happen if the two of them met up again in the ring right now because he’s no longer The Cleaner or the Best Bout Machine.

Omega says whether he gets a title shot next week or he has to scratch and claw to earn a shot at the title, we’re going to be seeing a lot more of him in 2026. MJF looks angry and says the fans can chant his name, but he didn’t have the guts to come out and say any of that to his face.

MJF’s problems continue

Hangman Page’s music hits, and he appears in the crowd with the chain around his neck. Moments later, Swerve Strickland’s music hits, and he appears in another part of the crowd alongside Prince Nana. Security rushes to ringside to try and restrain Page and Strickland.

MJF tells them to relax and says he’s a professional wrestler, and that wins and losses matter. Friedman says both of them are losers, and if they pick up some wins, they can go to Tony Khan and get a title shot, and he’ll beat their ass like he did at Worlds End.

Strickland and Page break free of security, and MJF escapes through the crowd as Hangman and Swerve proceed to destroy all of the security guards. Hangman says when he gets his hands on MJF, he’s going to strangle him with his ugly ass belt before taking it from him. Strickland says MJF better pray Hangman gets to him before he does because he’s yet to show him the worst side of himself.

Samoa Joe and The Opps appear on the Tron and says they deserve nothing, and the only person who deserves another shot is him. Joe says HOOK is going to choke Page out on sight and that Powerhouse Hobbs will be hunting for Swerve. Joe says it will happen next week because he doesn’t want to spend another minute in this town.

Swerve Strickland proposes a Lights Out match for The Opps next week. The Opps don’t answer; they just walk away.

A busy night for The Conglomeration

Renee Paquette is backstage with The Conglomeration and Roderick Strong. Mark Briscoe puts over that The Conglomeration is going to have a big night, adding the TBS Title to their group, and insists they will have a big 2026.

Briscoe hypes up the mixed trios match tonight, and Toni Storm comes in and does her thing with Orange Cassidy. Mina Shirakawa comes in showing that she’s jealous of Cassidy, and Storm reminds her that he’s a professional and isn’t her type. Storm bites, and Orange and Mina pulls her away as Luther gives Cassidy a staredown.

Roderick Strong yells at Renee and says he doesn’t want any part of this.

Mixed Tornado Trios Match: Orange Cassidy, Roderick Strong, and Toni Storm vs. Claudio Castagnoli, Daniel Garcia, and Marina Shafir

  • The finish of the match saw Wheeler Yuta get involved, distracting Orange Cassidy long enough for Claudio Castagnoli to hit his launching uppercut on Cassidy to score the pinfall victory for his team.

Winners: The Death Riders

Mina Shirakawa and Luther come to the ring after the match and stop Storm from checking on Cassidy. Roderick Strong stands over Cassidy, looking frustrated, before offering him his hand to help him up.

Grade: A-

Very fun match. Not as fun as the one we got at Worlds End. But very enjoyable nonetheless. These factions just seem to gel really well together. I know Toni Storm isn’t part of The Conglomeration, but she fits in with them quite nicely.

Will Mercedes Moné carry the TBS Championship into 2026?

We get a video package hyping the 2025 that Mercedes Moné has had. This makes me feel like she’s dropping the TBS Championship tonight. But if she wins, she ties the record for most TBS Title matches. So maybe they want her to have that too? I guess we’ll see soon enough.

Bandido vs. The Beast Mortos (w/ Sammy Guevara)

  • The finish of the match saw Bandido hit The Beast Mortos with the 21Plex to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Bandido

Grade: A-

I don’t think these two can have a bad match together. This was great stuff. I really enjoyed it. No one expects Bandido to beat MJF at Maximum Carnage, but it should be a very good match.

What’s next for Brodido…?

Renee Paquette is backstage with Brodido. Bandido cuts a promo in Spanish hyping up his match with MJF at Maximum Carnage. Brody King says everyone is after Bandido after Maximum Carnage, and even more people will be after him because he’ll be the next AEW World Champion. King reveals that Bandido has promised him the first shot at the title after he wins it. King makes his way to the ring for the next match.

Brody King vs. Lee Johnson

  • The finish of the match saw Brody King hitting Lee Johnson with a Gonzo Bomb to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: Brody King

Grade: N/A

Just a quick showcase match for Brody King. I have no problem with these. More wrestlers could benefit from getting these quick reps in every week. It helps get certain talents even more over.

Darby Allin wants PAC

We get a video promo from Darby Allin, who says he went to hell with Gabe Kidd at Worlds End. Allin says sometimes life catches up to you, and he sees the arguments for the way he lives his life, but it gives him peace.

Allin says in 2025 he stood on top of the world, and in 2026 he wants to stand on top of AEW. Darby says that before he can do that, he needs to finish what he started with the Death Riders. Allin says he’s beaten everyone in the group except PAC and says he doesn’t know when the match is going to happen, but he needs it.

Eliminator Match for the AEW Continental Championship: Jon Moxley vs. Josh Alexander

  • The finish of the match saw Jon Moxley rain down elbows on Josh Alexander before putting him in a sleeper choke, and Alexander had no choice but to tap out.

Winner: Jon Moxley

After the match, MVP and Shelton Benjamin stand on the stage. It appears we know our next challenger for Jon Moxley’s Continental Championship.

Grade: A

The turnaround year that Jon Moxley has had from the beginning of 2025 til now truly needs to be studied. What an unbelievable story for this guy to get him back to this point from one of the most hated to one of the most loved. Absolutely wild! This match was fantastic!

The Triangle of Madness have something to say to the champ

The Triangle of Madness are backstage. Thekla puts over The Sisters of Sin’s win at Zero Hour and mocks Kris Statlander for spitting in Jamie Hayter’s face before retaining her title. It’s made pretty clear that Thekla is looking for the next shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship.

AEW National Championship: Ricochet (w/ GOA) (c) vs. Jungle Jack Perry (w/ Luchasaurus)

  • The finish of the match saw a distraction by Bishop Kaun, allowing Ricochet to hit Jungle Jack Perry with the Spirit Gun to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And still AEW National Champion, Ricochet

After the match, it was revealed that Toa Liona took out Luchasaurus. Ricochet hits Perry with another Spirit Gun for good measure.

Grade: A-

Damn good match. I don’t think anyone thought Jack Perry was winning this match. Unfortunately, reports are coming out that Luchasaurus is legitimately hurt, and it appears he was written off television tonight. Hopefully, he won’t be gone too long.

Jon Moxley addresses Shelton Benjamin

The Death Riders are backstage. Jon Moxley says Shelton Benjamin doesn’t need to come out there looking at him like he feels some type of way and says he’s not hard to find. Moxley says the Death Riders are setting the standard. Wheeler Yuta says he heard what Darby Allin said earlier, and if he wants to get to PAC, he needs to get through him. Daniel Garcia says it’s the Death Riders against the world.

Willow Nightingale is backstage with Harley Cameron, who is hyping her up for her TBS Title match in the main event.

Who should MJF be most worried about?

MJF is backstage with Renee Paquette. MJF says he’s not worried about anyone coming after him because he’s a generational talent and intends to make his last title reign look short. Brodido comes in, and Brody King says MJF should be worried about Bandido because he’s taking his Triple B at Maximum Carnage… Bandido’s Big Belt.

AEW TBS Championship: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Willow Nightingale

  • The finish of the match saw Willow Nightingale hit Mercedes Moné with the Babe with the Powerbomb to score the pinfall victory.

Winner: And NEW AEW TBS Champion, Willow Nightingale!

Grade: A+

Willow Nightingale celebrates with Harley Cameron as the new TBS Champion. The Conglomeration joins in on the celebration as well. Kris Statlander comes out and stands off with Nightingale, and the two finally embrace as AEW Dynamite goes off the air.

AEW Dynamite Review:

This was a great way for AEW to end the year with tonight’s episode of Dynamite. They established multiple challengers for MJF in 2026, as well as setting the stage for the future of the Death Riders as a faction.

We had a lot of great action tonight as well, capping off with a fantastic main event that saw Willow Nightingale win the TBS Championship for a second time. I loved this show. Happy New Year, everyone! Here’s to a great 2026!

Grade: A
