A planned table spot at AEW’s latest pay-per-view didn’t go according to plan. In some way, however, the miscue was even better because of who was involved.
FTR defended the AEW World Tag Team Championship against the Bang Bang Gang’s Juice Robinson and Austin Gunn at AEW Worlds End. The match featured a Chicago Street Fight stipulation, so it seemed inevitable that weapons would be involved.
During one sequence in the match, FTR manager Stokely Hathaway fought with Robinson over a chair while standing on the apron. Juice shoved Stokely back to release his grip, and “Big Stoke” was sent off of the apron towards a table set up on the floor. It seemed like Stokely was going to crash through the table on the floor, but he overshot it and ended up hitting the barricade instead.
It would be easy to try and argue why the spot didn’t go according to plan, whether the table was too close, or Stokely fell too far. However, what happened next made up for the botch.
The table, which was still intact, slowly rocked after Stokely narrowly hit the edge and fell over on top of him on the floor.
FTR went on to retain their titles at Worlds End. The finish of the match saw FTR hit Austin Gunn with a spike piledriver onto the title to score the pinfall victory. Catch up on everything that went down at AEW Worlds End here.
