Tony Khan praises Jon Moxley for his toughness and ability to work through injuries.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Jon Alba, Khan praised Moxley, the 2025 Continental Classic winner, for being able to work through injuries at the beginning of the year. Khan says that Moxley was “pretty hurt at the start of the year.” However, Moxley never took time off and Khan claims he got healthier by continuing to wrestle.
“And then now, in this era where so much of the focus in pro wrestling is on TV and not touring six, seven days a week anymore, that’s really something that I think people don’t understand is, Jon’s wrestling was awesome all year,” Khan explained. “He put out his very best all year. At the beginning of the year, he was pretty banged up, and actually came back and got healthy through the year while he was still wrestling and never taking time off.”
The AEW President did not disclose what specific injuries Moxley was dealing with during the interview.
Tony Khan says Jon Moxley is a huge part of AEW’s success
Khan called Moxley “a marvel” and said AEW owes so much to him. Khan credited his rivalry with ‘Hangman’ Adam Page, which won SI’s award for Rivalry of the Year, as one of the ways that highlights Moxley’s value to AEW.
“I can talk at length about ‘Hangman’ Page and Jon Moxley, how valuable they both are to AEW, and Jon Moxley being the villain. Sometimes, the villain doesn’t get the love and the accolades that a fan favorite might, and ‘Hangman’ deserves all these accolades. He deserves all three of those awards,” Khan explained. “And I just wanted to mention, since the rivalry award is shared between Hangman and Mox, Mox deserves so much praise, and is such a huge part of why the company has been so strong for years.”
The injury issues continued for Moxley at AEW Worlds End on Saturday night, where he lost a tooth. Moxley appeared to lose a front tooth during his Continental Classic semifinal match against Kyle Fletcher. Later that night, Moxley went on to defeat Kazuchika Okada in the tournament finals to win the Continental Classic.
