AEW’s Buddy Matthews Provides Update On His Recovery Following Surgery

Buddy Matthews has shared a new update on his recovery following surgery.

The former AEW World Trios Tag Team Champion has been sidelined with an ankle injury since Dynamite: Grand Slam in Australia. Matthews suffered the injury just minutes before his match against Kazuchika Okada but went on to wrestle “The Rainmaker” for the Continental Championship.

Matthews underwent surgery for the ankle injury in August. He had previously posted a video of himself performing hack squats. The latest update came when a fan asked him about his recovery process during an Instagram Stories Q&A.

“It’s been a long process! Still having nerve issues with a lot of numbness! But accepted that it’s gonna take time. Really thought I’d have returned to the ring by now but can only control what I can.”

As for Kazuchika Okada, the Unified Champion is set to face IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Konosuke Takeshita in the semifinals of the Continental Classic at AEW Worlds End later tonight. The other semifinal will see Jon Moxley go head-to-head with Kyle Fletcher, with the winners of both matches advancing to the final at the pay-per-view.
