Gunther opens up about being confronted by angry fans after John Cena’s final match.
Gunther etched his name into WWE history by retiring both Goldberg and John Cena. The Ring General put a full stop to The Never Seen Seventeen at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Following the match, Gunther required security to safely make his way past rowdy fans.
During a recent appearance on TMZ’s Inside The Ring, Gunther spoke about the swarm of fans he encountered after his match against John Cena in Washington, D.C. Staying true to his heel persona, Gunther admitted that he enjoyed walking through the hostile crowd.
“I wanted to embrace it a little bit. I could have hidden more or something, but it felt good, walking through the anger of the people,” he said.
Gunther ranks his win over John Cena
“It was definitely the biggest win, the most meaningful maybe, of my career. Or the win with the biggest reaction afterwards. That I can definitely say; I think it’s hard to compare to anything else because John Cena has been such a legendary figure in WWE and the wrestling world in general. So, it’s really hard to compare.
“The whole day I could tell people were really tense and serious about everything. It almost felt more important than WrestleMania to a lot of people backstage, if I could compare it to that. It felt — I mean, I knew what I was going to do anyways, so the clock was ticking. It almost felt like a timebomb would explode at the end of the day. And well, it did, thankfully to my advantage.”
