Backstage Reaction To The AEW Debut Of Sting’s Son — Report

Steven Borden, the son of wrestling legend Sting, made his AEW debut last week and left a strong impression backstage.

Borden worked a dark match before AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming in Atlanta, Georgia, where he defeated Kiran Grey. This marked the second singles match between Borden and Grey in recent weeks. The two previously faced each other at DEFY Wrestling’s November 21 show, where Borden also picked up the win.

According to Fightful (via Fightful Select), AEW officials were very impressed with Borden’s performance. Tony Khan himself praised the debut, saying, “I thought he was excellent. He’s doing a great job. Very exciting in my opinion.”

The report also shared that a longtime AEW staff member also spoke highly of Steven Borden, particularly his physical presence. One source joked that they would sacrifice years of their NFL team winning to look like him, showing how much his physique stood out backstage.

Fightful also reported that one AEW source expects Borden to be under contract soon, if he isn’t already. His look and early in-ring work reportedly made a strong case for a future with the company.

Steven Borden is a former University of Kentucky football player who made his in-ring debut in October at an Awesome Championship Wrestling event. He has been training with his father’s former tag team partner, Darby Allin.

Fans may remember that Steven previously appeared on AEW television during Sting’s final match at AEW Revolution, where Sting and Darby Allin defeated The Young Bucks. Both of Sting’s sons appeared on that show dressed as different versions of their father.

With Tony Khan and AEW officials impressed by his early performances, it will be interesting to see when Steven Borden officially joins the AEW roster, as reports suggest he could possibly sign a contract with the company in the near future. Only time will tell.
