AEW Talent Blasts Finish Of John Cena’s Final Match

An AEW personality is not a fan of how John Cena’s retirement match transpired.

WWE’s decision to have John Cena tap out to Gunther in his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event has become a topic of debate among fans and wrestling personalities. Now, WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW star Jeff Jarrett has joined the list.

Taking to X/Twitter, the AEW Director of Business Development expressed his disappointment over John Cena losing his final match with a snarky post.

“Love watching movies when the superhero gets destroyed in the final scene and then dies. Even better is when my favorite sports team not only gets beat but gives up with a smile on their face. Makes me feel good about spending time/money on the night. Creative is subjective.”

The AEW World Champion Paid Tribute To John Cena Before His Retirement Match

AEW World Champion Samoa Joe paid tribute to John Cena during his title defense against Eddie Kingston at AEW Dynamite: Winter Is Coming last week.

During the match, Samoa Joe performed John Cena’s Attitude Adjustment on Eddie Kingston. He then locked Kingston in an STF and gave a Cena-style salute, looking straight into the camera.

John Cena and Samoa Joe trained together in UPW during the early stages of their careers. They did cross paths in WWE in 2017, but never had a proper televised feud. Cena also acknowledged Joe’s gesture in an Instagram post.

Samoa Joe is the second wrestler to pay tribute to John Cena on AEW television, as Adam Copeland did the same at All Out back in September.
