WWE has presented a shocking what-if scenario for John Cena’s final match.
17-time WWE Champion John Cena will compete in his final match against Gunther at Saturday Night’s Main Event tomorrow. The event will emanate live from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., and will also feature top main roster stars taking on NXT wrestlers in exhibition matches.
Ahead of the event, WWE has been bombarding social media with tributes to John Cena and has now drawn attention with an article posted on its official website. The article from contributor Mark Kaboly speculates about what to watch for during Cena’s final match and presents an intriguing scenario about The Rock returning to set up a match with Cena at WrestleMania 42.
“But… what it this wasn’t, in fact, Cena’s last match. All this press he’s been doing, hammering home that this is it for him, it’s just a ploy to make the reveal as shocking as his turn to the dark side 10 months ago. What if it comes full circle from WWE Elimination Chamber? The Rock returns and informs Cena that he wants his soul now, and as his Final Boss, this will be settled at WrestleMania 42 – a rubber match at WrestleMania that is 13 years in the making. Could you imagine?”
The Rock and rapper Travis Scott played a significant part in John Cena’s heel run earlier this year. However, WWE dropped them from the storyline without any notice. Cena himself addressed the original plans for The Rock and Scott in his retirement tour during a recent interview.
Despite all the speculations surrounding his retirement, John Cena doubled down that WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event will be his last event as an in-ring performer.
